UAAP Volleyball Season 88 Tips Off with Record Attendance at MOA Arena

PASAY CITY โ€“ The UAAP Season 88 Women’s Volleyball Tournament opened to a packed Mall of Asia Arena this week, with record-breaking attendance figures reflecting the sport’s continued surge in popularity across the Philippines.

The opening day doubleheader drew over 15,000 fans, with many arriving hours early to secure the best seats. The atmosphere was electric as traditional powerhouses clashed in highly anticipated matchups that did not disappoint.

“The growth of women’s volleyball in the Philippines is phenomenal,” said the UAAP executive director. “Our student-athletes have become genuine sports icons, inspiring young Filipinos across the country to take up the sport.”

This season features several highly recruited freshmen who are expected to make immediate impacts, alongside seasoned veterans returning for their final collegiate campaigns. The competition for the championship is expected to be fierce, with multiple schools considered legitimate contenders.

Local volleyball programs in Butuan City and throughout the Caraga region have reported increased enrollment following the national team’s recent international successes. Schools are investing more resources in developing volleyball programs to nurture the next generation of Philippine volleyball talent.

The UAAP volleyball tournament runs through the end of the school year, with the championship finals typically held in May. Games are broadcast on national television and streamed online, allowing fans throughout the country to follow the action.
